  Natural Treatment of Iron Deficiency Anemia (2)
Physicians often recommend taking iron supplements on an empty stomach with orange juice to increase absorption. This is because iron absorption is enhanced by vitamin C. Alternatively, Mitamins Advanced Formula for Anemia can be taken, which not only contains iron but the vitamins and minerals needed to aid absorption of iron in the treatment of anemia. Antacids and milk can inhibit iron absorption so need to be avoided when taking supplements.

Women are more prone to iron deficiency anemia than men. In fact, statistics show that iron deficiency anemia is present in 50% of pregnant women and 20% of all women. Iron deficiency anemia in women is probably due to menstruation; whatever the reason, women need to be extra careful about their diet in order to prevent anemia. Exercise is also essential in the treatment of iron-deficiency anemia.
